Community-focused software
Meerkat Technology worked with organizations whose technology needs were real but often too specialized for off-the-shelf systems or too modest for enterprise-scale platforms.
Meerkat Technology has been an incubator, consultant, and developer of many innovative software, e-commerce and web-based projects throughout its history.
We are best known for our MKtix.com service, one of the first online ticketing,
registration, and donation platform focused on serving local arts,
nonprofit, civic, and community organizations.
Meerkat's technology and expertise continues to be used to fuel new community based and educational projects, including ReasonedVoice.com, a site devoted to pragmatic critical thinking.
History
Meerkat focused on practical web-based tools for organizations that needed useful, understandable technology without the complexity of large enterprise systems.
Meerkat Technology worked with organizations whose technology needs were real but often too specialized for off-the-shelf systems or too modest for enterprise-scale platforms.
Meerkat Technology served as an incubator to test out and develop solutions that applied new technologies to simplify complex business practices. Several of these products are still in use today in various industries.
Meerkat also supported web publishing and custom software projects where clear information, reliability, and usability mattered more than technical flash.
Online Ticketing for Community Events
MKtix.com sold its first ticket in December 2003. It is hard to believe now, but at that time there was still a real question about whether people would be willing to buy tickets to community events online. Most local event tickets were still sold by cash or check, often at the door, and there were few reasonably priced options for small organizations that wanted to sell tickets online.
That question has long since been answered. Since that first sale, MKtix.com sold more than 1 million tickets and helped community organizations, primarily in the Greater Merrimack Valley area, raise more than $25 million. It did so while maintaining low ticket fees, personalized service, and the same fee structure for organizations of all sizes. The service was entirely self-funded, with no outside investors or loans.
But all good things come to an end. With the arrival of well-funded companies offering similar services, and with the growing security costs required to defend against malicious bots and hackers, it became increasingly difficult for a small company to compete. When COVID brought most live events to a halt, we decided to discontinue the MKtix service.
We are proud of what MKtix accomplished over nearly two decades. We enjoyed working with our customers and with the many people who bought tickets through the service. We are grateful to those who stayed with us over the years, and to the many friends we made along the way.
